Launch of the Lourdes photo album
Budapest, December 18. The official presentation of the Hungarian Association's latest publication, the Lourdes photo album titled “Devotion”, took place following the last regular Thursday Holy Mass of 2025.
It is no coincidence that participation in the Order's annual pilgrimage to Lourdes, accompanying the sick, is a requirement for admission to the Order of Malta. Delegations from national associations from all over the world come to Lourdes for the traditional pilgrimage in early May: thousands of knights, dames and volunteers take care of those entrusted to them, who wish to be healed and who need hope. Here, the mission of the Order, bearing witness to faith by helping those in need, can be experienced tangibly - and most beautifully summarized. This is the commitment and dedication, i.e. devotion, of the Knights of Malta, which we have chosen as the title of the publication.
The Hungarian Association of the Order of Malta publishes this photo album in the context of the spiritual formation process in preparation for the centenary of its establishment. The photos taken by photojournalist Zita Merényi during the 2025 pilgrimage exemplify the Order of Malta’s commitment to serving the two goals set out in its motto: defense of the faith and service to the poor. The album, edited by graphic artist Bea Vertel, gives a deeper meaning to the scenes and situations recalled in the images, which are familiar to all of us, within the framework of the evangelical beatitudes symbolized by the eight-pointed cross. The images that fill both sides of the album, thanks to the special quality printing technique, make it even more enjoyable to delve into the artistic images.
The foreword by Grand Master Fra’ John Dunlap to the Hungarian Order commends our commitment to the eight-pointed cross and the goals set out in the motto of the Order, in preparation for our centenary jubilee.
Our special publication is produced in limited editions and will not be sold commercially. It will serve as a protocol gift for the Association's partners - in Hungarian and English versions - and can be obtained by the members of the Order for a donation of 10,000 HUF, equivalent to its production cost.
