Double event in Cologne
September 30: a the board meeting of the international aid organization of the Order of Malta (Malteser International, MI) was held, in which the Hungarian board member Mariann Czirják, who was elected in March, also participated. The Secretary General reported on the events of the previous quarter, and announced his forthcoming trip to Uganda this week to review the situation there. After that, the Chief Security Advisor and the Head of Digitalization of MI spoke about their main tasks.
At the invitation of HE Fra' Alessandro de Franciscis, Grand Hospitaller, the next meeting of Malteser International will be held in Rome on December 14.
The same afternoon, about 1,500 members, volunteers, staff and associates of the Order attended the Holy Mass celebrating the 70th birthday of the German aid organization, Malteser Hilfsdienst (MHD), in Cologne Cathedral, in the presence among others of HE the Grand Hospitaller Fra' Alessandro de Franciscis. Afterwards, the guests celebrated together. Among the projected images showing the organization's 70 years of activity were photos taken in the East German refugee camp in Zugliget from 1989. The first leader of the former camp, Wolfgang Wagner from Munich, was also among the participants, so Mariann, who worked with him during the historical 1989 deployment, was able to meet him again after many years.
