Hungarian State medal for Zsuzsa Máriássy
Munich, February 15, 2023. Consul General Gábor Torday-Lejkó presented the award to our consoeur in an intimate ceremony held at the Hungarian Consulate General, "in recognition of her activities for the protection of the Christian faith and her selfless help to the sick and needy living in Hungary". HE Imre Ugron, Ambassador emeritus, highlighted Zsuzsa Máriássy1 tireless work over more than thirty years in the Lourdes pilgrimages of the Order of Malta, in the international and Hungarian summer camps organized for young people with disabilities, and in the lead-up to the establishment of the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta.
In her acceptance speech, Zsuzsa Máriássy said: "I came here from a country where the communist regime at the time persecuted and monitored me. That is why I was forced to leave my country, which was painful. But now the President of the Republic has granted me this award, I am no longer the "persecuted": this is a moral satisfaction which fills me with great joy".
