Advent charity concert achieves its aim
Budapest, December 5. With well over one thousand Euros collected in the donation boxes placed at the entrance, the Charity Service will be able to fund the upgrading of the specialised equipment for pediatric emergencies in its ambulance service. Sincere thanks to the generous donors!
The Church of the Stigmata of Saint Francis was filled to capacity on December 5, for the Advent charity concert organised by the Cardiac and Angiology Department of Semmelweiss University, the Hungarian Association of the Order of Malta and the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta. Two young physicians of Semmelweiss University, who are at the same time accomplished organists, Dr. Gergely Tóth-Vajna and Dr. Zsombor Tóth-Vajna, together with soprano Gabriella Ács, performed pieces by Händel, Mozart, Bach and Liszt.
The quality of the church's acoustics and of the organ proved to be both excellent - as evidenced by the sound recording, which is linked here below. Gabriella Ács cleverly found the one perfect opening in the screen enclosing the organ gallery, and from there she let her beautiful voice soar into the grandiose space. The concert did not only serve a good cause, but it proved to be a wonderful learning experience, illustrating how the best classical composers from the Baroque through the Viennese romantic era were influenced by faith and spirituality. The concert truly contributed to the spirit of the Advent season in the hearts and minds of all who heard it.
We invite you to share in the spirit by listening to the concert, linked here.
